Getting Older. Changing My Mind. Still Doing Chores. (Written by: Joel Heitkamp)

by Amy Iler

“It” is coming. Winter.  Winter is coming and when it does, it won't care if you have the patio furniture put away.

What do you have left to do? For me: one more bagging of leaves. The trees are still hanging in there. In fact, as much as I love fall, I wouldn't mind if the leaves would just all drop now so I can get it done!

Oh, and Christmas lights find their way onto the list too.  But the older I get, the less I seem to put up. It used to take a day or two of prep and then two good afternoons to get all the lights up. One year (midst a light war with a neighbor in Mantador), my electric bill went up $350.  Hey, but it was a good war.  Other people wanted in on the action and were coming by to donate lights!

And, while I never thought I would “go south” for the winter when (or if) I retire; now I could see it.  Although, I don't think I could leave until after Christmas. After all, there has to be some ice fishing and late season pheasant hunting.  I still have my priorities.

Whatever you have planned for the weekend, I hope you enjoy the season we are in right now. Remember, “it” is coming.  For me, that means bagging leaves, pulling out Christmas lights and cheering on a hopeless Vikings team against a pretty darn good Packer team.
