Gene Taylor Leaves NDSU (Written by: Joel Heitkamp)

by Amy Iler

As Gene Taylor heads to Iowa, North Dakota State University has no idea how much they will miss him. A move from Athletic Director to Assistant Athletic Director means, in his words, "the best shot at being an Athletic Director at the BCS level.

This brings a few things to mind: Gene is not leaving NDSU for his dream job, he is leaving for a better chance at his dream job. So, all of the talk of Division I athletics is really just that... talk. To the rest of the world of college athletics, NDSU is (and will always be) the FCS school that can beat you on any given day.

The second thing that comes to mind is how sad it will be to see him go. Taylor is man with class and dignity. I have been proud to know him and proud to have him represent the state I love. Gene Taylor was the glue that held all things together at NDSU. Those sitting in luxury suites love to take credit for the Bison's success but, in the end, it was the team Gene put together.

He knew the look of a winner and did all he could to allow them to win. The question now: Will the Bison continue the tradition of winning?
