This week for the North Dakota State University football team has been similar to the hangover after the big party. We all are talking about the win over Kansas State University deep into the week like we would reminisce about the big party five days after it is over with.
What makes it even worse, this weekend’s opponent for the Bison is a Division II team from Michigan. Something called Ferris State. Frankly, we are happy for the Bulldogs but the game is pear-shaped for them.
Welcome to Fargo, here’s your butt kicking and paycheck and thank you for serving as the home opening opponent. Come halftime, Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome will be more empty than the Alerus Center on any regular Saturday.
Speaking of the airplane hanger and the team that plays in it, the School up North has a pretty big game this weekend. The South Dakota State University Jackrabbits are coming to Grand Forks, N.D. I really hope those who cheer for this team realize this and react accordingly.
The Jacks are picked to finish second in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, are currently ranked 6th in the Football Championship Subdivision national rankings and have an All-American running back in Zach Zenner.
The team with no nickname could make a name for themselves if they beat SDSU. This is not a stretch either. The School up North has a solid passing game and an All-American of their own in wideout Greg Hardin.
If those guys who wear the different shade of green pull the upset over the Jackrabbits, I will be forced to do two things. One, start calling them the University of North Dakota. Two, start considering them as a serious FCS playoff threat.
