I grew up in Columbia Heights, MN. I grew up in a hockey family. My older brother Bill played and coached the game, My sister and I would help him melt the end of his hockey sticks, shape em just right, and then tape em up. We enjoyed watching him play varsity hockey all through High School. If there would of been a girls hockey team in the 60's and 70's, I would of played. Our Dad took us to MN North Star games when we were kids. And, we ALWAY'S watched the MN State High School Hockey Tournament in March. It was a family thing. We picked our favorite team to win, and rooted for them all weekend. I usually picked the team with the cutest boys. You can imagine our thrill when my oldest nephew, Matt, and his Lakeville team landed a spot in the big tournament. The thrill of his name being announced by the announcer, he skates to the center ice, and says "hi" to his Mom and Dad and sister, Katie. In the last 30 years, I have been cheering for the Moorhead Spuds. Tonight, they will play the Roseau Rams in the Class 2A, Section 8 championship, in Thief River Falls, at 7pm. Roseau has 7 state titles, (2 in Class 2A), Moorhead has yet to win a 2A title. Tonight's game will decide who will go to the Sate Tournament. Good Luck, to new Head Coach Jon Ammerman, his team and his staff. Thank, Moorhead Spuds for the thrills all these years. My favorite Minnesota Tradition is still the MN State High School Hockey Tournament. What's yours?
